now and then book

Nit picker point: one of the characters mentions how annoying it is to be in a time before mosquitoes were eradicated... let's hope that never happens because getting rid of mosquitoes gets rid of their predators which then gets rid of their predators... you get the idea. Get the Deals now! This was my W in my alphabetical list, and I guessed by the title it would be about time travel. Back room had some decent older hardcovers, seems to be getting more stock since the move. I really enjoyed how Rothert works the ‘Now’ & ‘Then’ sections into her writing. As a result, the dialogue and conversations between every character in this book have a sense of authenticity that adds great value to the book.

Somewhat of a departure from his usual contemporary fiction, An enjoyable read which, although published in 1946, gave the impression of similar works in the 17th and 18th centuries. Now & Then (5.) I loved this one and how both Madi's and Tyson's voices are both uniquely different, along with how they can stop this current catastrophe. I had to force myself to finish this book--at least it was short. The characters are very interesting and the portrayal of the conditions and behaviors is vivid, if a bit painful. He was a bit like Carl Sagan if you replace the cosmos with earth and all the existential questions around humanity. But this one, though enjoyable, left me flat in the end. I love how Somerset Maugham can weave a story and stitch you right in, making you feel like a conspirator, or at the very least, complicit to events that unfold as you least expect them to.
